GLENORCHY ISLAND SAFARI

At the head of the Lake

The islands on Lake Wakatipu have played a significant part in this area’s diverse history and are now an important natural reserve surrounded by the breathtaking snow capped Southern Alps within Mount Aspiring National Park.

Our safari launches from the shores of Lake Wakatipu, near Glenorchy, where you will embark on a short paddle across the lake to a secluded beach on either Pigeon or Pig Island.  From here you will have a chance to explore this predator free island and discover more about it’s dynamic history, ecology and bird life.

  • Trip Highlights
  • Easy 45 minute paddle across Lake Wakatipu. (Same paddle time back).
  • Short walk on the Island.
  • Photograph endangered bird life including New Zealand Weka.
  • Refreshments on the beach.

What Our Clients Said:

“This was definitely one of the best kayaking excursions we have been on.  Double kayaks, good equipment, the guide was excellent – friendly but professional and very informative about the flora and fauna.  A full two hours of paddling around Pigeon Island, a nice stop for morning tea with a short walk on the island and plenty of opportunities for photos!  Our group of eight kayaks, split into two groups with a guide each, were the only people on the lake – perfect!
Thanks to Sam, the owner, who oversaw everything and Will, our guide.”  Robin S
